Job Description:

We seek a skilled Quantity Surveyor specialising in civil engineering and groundworks to join our team in Leicester. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of cost management, contractual matters, and procurement processes related to civil engineering and groundwork projects. This role offers the flexibility of permanent employment or self-employment, depending on the candidate’s preference and experience level.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cost Management: Manage and control project costs from inception to completion, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

2. Procurement: Source and procure subcontractor and supplier services, negotiate contracts, and manage procurement processes to ensure the best value for the company.

3. Contract Administration: Administer contracts, including reviewing and drafting contractual documents, assessing variations, and managing claims and disputes.

4. Estimating and Tendering: Prepare and review estimates and tender documents for civil engineering and groundworks projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with client requirements.

5. Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial reports, including cash flow forecasts, valuations, and final accounts, to stakeholders and senior management.

6. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, including conducting risk assessments and implementing risk management strategies.

7. Client Liaison: Maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, addressing any issues or concerns promptly and effectively.

8. Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and industry best practices, including health and safety regulations and environmental requirements.

9. Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and correspondence, adhering to company procedures and document control systems.

10. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to achieve project objectives and deliver high-quality outcomes.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably focusing on civil engineering and groundworks projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management techniques.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, subcontractors, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools, including MS Office, estimating software, and project management systems.
  • Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is desirable.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
