JOB PURPOSE: The Electrical estimator’s role is to manage and produce an electrical tender that’s compliant and competitive and is coordinated with the mechanical scope to ensure we offer a turnkey solution.
A large proportion of our contracts are JCT Design and Build, so the right candidate must have knowledge of coordinating design and reviewing the specifications and tender to ensure compliance and opportunities for cost reductions (VE).
The enquiries will be over the UK in line with our client’s pipeline of work.
The Electrical estimator will have to manage their tenders in line with the estimating programme and deliver the estimates in line with the return dates. It will be the Estimator's responsibility to ensure the programme, sub-contractors enquiries, RFI schedules and evaluation of all prices returned are managed throughout the process along with obtaining material quotations and carrying out take-offs.
This a permanent position for the right candidate to have the potential to develop and be awarded internal progression within and out of our Northampton office.
Electrical estimators are expected to manage electrical projects between £100k and £3m in value and they should lead by our core values and ensure that our clients would work with us in the future and develop relationships and more negotiated type work, by the professional submission of our tender.
They should lead by example with all communications including telephone calls with an open and honest approach and thinking outside of the box in how to secure the scheme, but, still ensuring we meet the client's expectations and budgets.
It will be the estimator’s responsibility to follow up estimates once submitted to receive feedback and to see how we can secure the scheme from the interaction throughout the tendering process. This information is key to the overall SEC tendering tracker and looking at opportunities, potential forward workload, and turnover.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Overall administrative, technical appraisal, opportunities, sub-contractor packages, financial assessment from initial enquiry through to tender submission with our clients.
Ensuring all activities under their control are undertaken in accordance with the quality system.

DIMENSIONS: The Electrical estimator is a lead key member of the MEP estimating team and will be expected to work with colleagues in developing and implementing the company turnover and estimated profit forecast to achieve client and company objectives and goals.
Our Electrical estimators report to the Sales Director & are responsible for maintaining the commercial and contractual interests of the company within the electrical tender.
Annual appraisals will be carried out with quarterly reviews. Appraisals will be based on a number of factors including quality of submission, number of tenders submitted, secured ratio and repeat business.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Full responsibility for all financial and commercial aspects of the tender whilst under their control, ensuring we understand the client's programme, to allow us to assess preliminaries.
Working closely with the client’s estimator to understand time frames, budgets, value engineering.
Full presentation of tender vent between estimators and sales director to run through briefly the scheme looking at plans, contradictions of specification, breakdown of materials, sub-contractor packages, labour rates, preliminaries, and final mark-ups.
COMMUNICATIONS: Always Liaising directly with the client (s) to ensure we are that “go to company” and be more proactive than our competition.
A good team leader with the relevant IT skills required to perform their duties inc Word, Excel, MS Project and the experience of Estimation Trimble estimating software an advantage.
Be professional in their approach to dealing with clients and colleagues.
KEY TASKS:
- The execution and delivery of the estimate, in line with our values.
- Evaluate the specifications and drawings to ensure no conflict between documents and employers’ requirements or fire strategy.
- Issue RFIs to the client if we find any conflicting statements or issues to confirm clarity.
- Programming all enquiries to ensure time constraints are met.
- Working closely with the supporting wholesalers to ensure the best prices and discounts.
- Issuing sub-contractor's packages and reviewing returns with price and compliance before inputting into tender.

- Create the estimate CSA on Estimation Trimble and complete the tender using the software.
- Between the sales director and estimator an allocated vetting time will added to the MS calendar to allow a tender review to be appraised before we discuss and input mark-ups for the final competitive offer to our client.
- Complete the offer letter and incorporate any exclusion/ clarification within and commercial offerings with programme periods, payment terms etc.
- Once submitted, keep in touch with the client to obtain feedback on our submission, competitiveness, timelines, have the secured etc.
- Provide the above information back to the Sales Director to update the sales tracker.
- Work on multiple tenders at any one time.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Essential Appropriate experience working within the Building & Construction Industry and multi residential sector with track record and references. The ability to communicate on a one-to-one basis and promote good team practices. The ability to establish and maintain good client relationships. Promote our business through a professional approach to business.
Desirable Understanding of standard forms of contracts used within the construction industry. Understanding of all electrical systems and specialist trades to the following sectors:

Excellent communication skills dealing with clients, sub-contractors, wholesalers, and colleagues. The Electrical estimator will be required to travel in any location to visit and conduct site surveys or site meetings relating to the tender. The Senior M&E Contracts Manager must be prepared to comply with all the company policies. Must be prepared to undertake any additional training associated with the specific requirements of the position. Must be flexible in delivering projects involving working outside normal hours as and when required to meet the clients’ expectations
